Prince Harry has finally addressed the rumours of his divorce from his wife Meghan Markle, which spread after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were seen appearing at different events on their own, as part of a “professional separation".

Speaking at the New York Times‘ 2024 DealBook Summit, Harry was asked about how he handles speculation surrounding their relationship. “Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?" he said with a laugh.

NYT columnist and DealBook founder Andrew Ross Sorkin, 47, highlighted the constant attention in the couple’s lives, referencing Google News searches. When Sorkin asked him why the couple were not attending events together, to which Harry replied, “Because you invited me, you should have known!"

Harry said the constant interest in his and Meghan’s life was “definitely not a good thing" and appeared to take a dig at trolls who spread rumours about the couple. “It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls," he said.

‘Focused On Being Best Dad, Husband’

“Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do," the Duke of Sussex added. He also said the event will be “spun or twisted" against him and Sorkin might be trolled relentlessly as well.

“For that, I can only apologise, but you did invite me, so it’s not my fault," Harry quipped. He also reflected upon his childhood in the wake of a media frenzy surrounding his late mother Diana and her chaotic marriage with King Charles III.

“I’ve seen stories written about myself that aren’t exactly based on reality. I’ve seen stories about members of my family, friends, strangers, all sorts of people. And I think when you grow up within that environment, you do find yourself questioning the validity of the information but also what other people are thinking of that as well, and how dangerous it can be over the course of time," he added.

Harry said he was focused on the charitable work initiated by his and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation on increasing online safety for children along with his “main goal" of “being the best husband and dad that I can be". Harry and Meghan have two children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, whom they are raising in California, United States.

In recent months, Meghan Markle, 43, and Prince Harry, 40, have been spotted at different events on their own. Markle recently hosted a private dinner for the Southern California Welcome Project, organized through their Archewell Foundation.

According to the New York Post, the royal couple was going through a professional separation through a “twin-track" approach, with reports claiming their work relationship is “not in a good place". Harry had previously acknowledged that they had been “at a crossroads" with work recently.

Meghan attended the 2024 Paley Honors Fall Gala in Beverly Hills on Wednesday, where she supported Tyler Perry, Lilibet’s godfather with The Paley Honors Award, the highest honour from The Paley Center for Media.
