Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami renamed locations in Haridwar, Dehradun, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar to honor Indian culture, sharing the new names on social media.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has renamed several locations in Haridwar, Dehradun, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts. He said the decision reflects the sentiments of the public and the region’s commitment to Indian culture and heritage. The new names, he added, will inspire people by honoring the great figures who contributed to preserving India’s cultural legacy.

He released a list where the new names were released alongside their former names.

Haridwar District

Aurangzebpur-Shivaji NagarGhaziwali – Arya NagarChandpur – Jyotiba Phule NagarMohammadpur Jat- Mohanpur JatKhanpur Kursali – Ambedkar NagarIdrishpur-NandpurKhanpur-Sri KrishnapurAkbarpur Fazalpur – Vijaynagar

CM Dhami has also shared the list on his social media handle, unveiling the renamed places. “Aurangzebpur of Haridwar district will now be known as Shivaji Nagar. In accordance with public sentiments, the names of various places located in Haridwar, Dehradun, Nainital and Uddham Singh Nagar districts have been changed," Dhami said in a social media post on X.

“The names are being changed so that people can take inspiration from the great men who contributed to Indian culture," he further added while speaking to reporters, according to the The Hindu.
