British woman fatally stabbed at Rosenheim station, suspect detained

A 27-year-old man has been detained in Germany after a 31-year-old British woman was fatally stabbed at a train station early on Sunday, authorities said. The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries but later died.

Police said they are still investigating the circumstances and motive behind the attack. They have appealed for witnesses to come forward as the inquiry continues.

The stabbing took place at Rosenheim train station in southern Germany. Rosenheim police said the woman was attacked there and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died of her injuries. Federal police officers who were called to the scene detained the suspect immediately after the stabbing.

Police identified the suspect as a 27-year-old German man from the nearby county of Frstenfeldbruck. They did not release the names of either the victim or the suspect, in line with German privacy rules. Investigators also asked whether anyone had witnessed "an argument or a physical altercation" at the station in the early hours between Saturday night and Sunday.

Train operator Deutsche Bahn, which is responsible for Germany's train stations, said later on Sunday that "our thoughts today are with the family and friends of the young woman". According to the German news agency dpa, the company said its security personnel, who were at the crime scene along with federal police, were still in shock and would need time to process the stabbing. Police said train services were not significantly disrupted and that forensic work in an underpass at the station had been completed before the first trains began running again early on Sunday morning.

The case centres on the fatal stabbing of a British woman at Rosenheim station, the detention of a 27-year-old suspect at the scene, and an ongoing police investigation into what led to the attack.
