Survivors speak out

Among those affected was Zoe Weissman, a 20-year-old sophomore who survived the 2018 school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where 17 people were killed.

Weissman said the experience at Brown left her in shock and anger. “I think mentally I feel like I’m 12 again. These feels exactly how I felt in 2018," she told reporters. She highlighted the recurring trauma for students who have survived multiple school shootings, citing examples of others who faced similar situations at Oxford, Michigan, and Michigan State.

The shooting occurred while students were taking finals before the winter holidays. Although no classes were officially in session, many were “out and about" on campus when the gunman opened fire. The university has since suspended regular activities, and authorities are investigating the incident..
