According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the plane, which was heading to Springfield-Branson Airport in Missouri, crashed around 11:30 PM GMT (4:00 AM IST).
The FAA confirmed that both the FAA and the Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) would be investigating the cause of the crash.
The Learjet 55, a jet typically used for medical transports, was owned by Jet Rescue, a Mexico-based air ambulance service. Jet Rescue is known for providing emergency air transport for critically ill patients, including high-profile cases such as flying baseball legend David Ortiz to Boston after he was shot in the Dominican Republic in 2019.
This plane crash comes just two days after a midair collision between an American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter in Washington, D.C., which killed all 67 people on board, making it the deadliest air disaster in the US in nearly 25 years.
