ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharamn Das on Monday claimed that an advocate, who had defended Bangladesh’s Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in a legal case, was “brutally" attacked in the neighbouring country.

Advocate Ramen Roy, reportedly in critical condition at a hospital, was attacked after several people ransacked his home, Das claimed, fueling further tension amid reports of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.

The ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson claimed that the attack left Roy critically injured, and he is currently in the ICU, fighting for his life. CNN-News18 could not independently verify the authenticity of the post.

“Please pray for Advocate Ramen Roy. His only ‘fault’ was defending Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in court. Islamists ransacked his home and brutally attacked him, leaving him in the ICU, fighting for his life. #SaveBangladeshiHindus #FreeChinmoyKrishnaPrabhu," he posted on X along with a picture of Roy in ICU.

“This brutal attack on advocate Roy is a direct consequence of his legal defence of Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu. It reflects the growing danger faced by those who defend the rights of religious minorities in Bangladesh," Das was quoted as saying news agency PTI.

Chinmoy Das Arrested, Denied Bail

Chinmoy Krishna Das, who served as a spokesperson for Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, was arrested at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal Airport on Monday while en route to Chattogram to attend a rally.

A court denied bail to Prabhu and upheld the sedition case filed against him allegedly over his outspoken stance on minority rights in the country, according to reports.

Massive protests broke out in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh, demanding Prabhu’s immediate release. Visuals from Bangladesh showed multiple protests being held in Dhaka and Chittagong. Members of the Hindu community also protested in Shahbagh against the Hindu monk’s arrest.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also condemned the arrest and denial of bail to the Hindu religious leader and urged the Bangladesh government to ensure the safety of Hindus, a religious minority in the country.
