A video going viral on social media (here, here, and here) allegedly shows US President Donald Trump signing orders related to the Declassification of Records concerning the assassinations of former President John F. Kennedy, Former Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. In the video, Trump is heard saying that people had been waiting for this and that everything will be revealed. This is followed by footage allegedly showing JFK’s assassination. The post is being shared with the claim that Trump ordered the release of JFK’s assassination video. Let’s verify the claim made in the post through this article.
The archived post can be found here.
To verify the claim, we did a reverse image search of the viral video’s keyframes, which led us to a C-SPAN report (archived) showing U.S. President Donald Trump signing executive orders on 23 January 2025. The video revealed that President Trump signed six orders, including 23 pardons for those linked to an anti-abortion protest, and orders on cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence, and the declassification of files related to the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. After the signing, he answered questions from reporters, including one about a federal judge temporarily blocking his birthright citizenship executive order.
We also found the executive order on the declassification of records related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The order mandates full transparency, aiming to provide the American public access to these records, which have been withheld for over 50 years. It outlines a two-step process: first, to release Kennedy’s assassination records within 15 days, and then, within 45 days, to review and release records on the other two assassinations. The order ensures public interest in full disclosure unless national security concerns arise.
To verify the the assassination video, we conducted a reverse image search of the keyframes from the viral video which led us to a 26-second video (archived) titled Zapruder Film HD, uploaded on 15 October 2013, on the YouTube channel named JFK Assassination Truth. The video featured similar footage to that in the viral video.
Upon searching the internet about the Zapruder Film, we found that “The Abraham Zapruder Film" is an 8mm colour home movie, that captures the presidential motorcade and assassination in Dealey Plaza. It is the only known footage showing the full assassination sequence, though experts still debate its details. The film starts with family scenes and then shows his office assistant before filming the motorcade. Zapruder sold the film to Time-Life Inc. the day after the assassination, but the original was later returned to his family in 1975 and stored at the Archives. In 1997, it was confiscated by the Assassination Records Review Board and eventually donated to The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in 1999.
This confirms that the assassination video of former US President John F. Kennedy was on the internet much before US President Donald Trump’s executive order on 23 January 2025 to declassify the assassination records.
To sum up, the JFK assassination video was available online much before President Trump’s 23 January 2025 executive order and not released following it.
