A 27-year-old woman from China has captured the attention of social media users after leaving her job as a flight attendant to become a pig farmer in her hometown. She now earns 200,000 yuan (US$28,000) in just two months from selling pigs, managing her farm, and running her social media accounts.

Yang Yanxi, originally from Heilongjiang province in Northeastern China, worked as a flight attendant in Shanghai Airlines for five years after graduating. However, in 2022, she made the decision to quit her job and return home to care for her sick mother.

Speaking about her time as a flight attendant, Yang revealed that her salary at the airline had fallen to just 2,800 yuan (US$380) during difficult times, South China Morning Post reported.

She further revealed that her parents had gone into debt to support her lifestyle in Shanghai, where she often asked for money to buy luxury items. Feeling guilty about her parents’ sacrifices, Yang chose to leave her career behind.

In April 2023, she took over a pig farm from a relative and began raising pigs. She shared her farming life on a popular video platform, quickly gaining nearly 1.2 million followers.

In her videos, Yang is often seen feeding and caring for the pigs while wearing beautiful dresses. Despite the hard physical work, she is determined to succeed. “I work so hard at the pig farm that my back and waist ache every day. After a full day, I smell stinky," she said.

Yang hopes to expand her business, open a store, and even start a hotel in the future. “Now, I can stay with my parents. I am very happy and fulfilled," she added.

The former flight attendant’s story has inspired many across China and attracted much attention on social media, with many admiring her hard work, no matter the profession she chooses.
