Donald Trump US Congress Address: US President Donald Trump delivered a primetime speech at the joint session of Congress on Tuesday night (local time), highlighting his sweeping decisions that have reshaped America’s immigration landscape, ended several DEI initiatives- vowing that the US would be “woke no longer" and reduced the federal workforce size, notably all within his first month in office.

“America is back!" declared Trump as he opened his address at the Congress. Going forward, he noted that six weeks earlier, he had stood beneath the Capitol dome and proclaimed “the dawn of the golden age of America."

Speaking about his electoral victory over former Vice President Kamala Harris, the Republican leader claimed that his win gave him “a mandate like has not been seen in many decades" amid USA chants by his supporters.

The US President praised his plan to offer a “gold card" that would allow immigrants a path to American citizenship by paying $5 million. He said that it would be “like the green card, but better and more sophisticated."

“For $5 million, we will allow the most successful job-creating people from all over the world to buy a path to US citizenship. It’s like the green card, but better and more sophisticated. These people will have to pay tax in our country," he said amid thundering applause.

He also made a direct reference to India while underscoring his administration’s decision to implement the plan of reciprocal tariffs against countries which charge the US at the highest.

Coming to the Russia and Ukraine peace deal, Trump asserted that both Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin have agreed to come to the negotiating table to secure lasting peace.

Trump’s US Congress Address: Key Takeaways

Trump began his address by highlighting the US economic challenges, blaming his predecessor Joe Biden for poor financial decisions during his tenure that led to inflation in America. While noting the soaring price of eggs, he pledged to make “America Affordable Again."He further trained guns at Biden for using the Justice Department as a political weapon against him. While recalling how he survived four criminal prosecutions, Trump said, “We have brought back free speech… I signed an order making English the official language of the US."He vowed to impose reciprocal tariffs against several countries, including China and India, saying that the move is towards making “America Rich Again." He further announced that reciprocal tariffs will kick in on 2 April. “Whatever they tariff us, we will tariff them," he said. “Whatever they tax us, we will tax them."Trump said that he received an important letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier today, which clearly mentions that Kyiv is “ready to come to the negotiating table for peace as soon as possible". He added that he had “some serious" discussions with Russia and received strong signals from Moscow that it is also “ready for peace".In a bold stance against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, Trump pledged to eliminate these policies across government, the private sector, and the military. “Our country will no longer be woke. Whether you’re a doctor, accountant, or lawyer, hiring and promotion should be based on skill and competence, not race or gender," he stated.

“We have removed the poison of critical race theory from our public schools. I signed an order making it the official policy of the US government that there are only two genders, male and female," he said.He reaffirmed his stance on border security, saying that within hours of taking the oath, he declared a national emergency on the southern border. “I deployed US military and border patrol to repel the invasion of our country and what a job they have done! As a result, illegal border crossings last month were by far the lowest ever recorded," said Trump, labelling Joe Biden as the “worst President in American history."Donald Trump praised his wife, Melania Trump, for championing a bill that criminalises the online posting of intimate images—whether real or altered—at the federal level.
