US President Donald Trump has given Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban a one-year exemption from sanctions that allows Hungary to continue purchasing Russian oil. The announcement came after a friendly meeting between the two right-wing leaders at the White House on Friday.

The meeting highlighted the close ties between the two leaders, both known for their hardline policies and populist rhetoric. During the discussions, Trump and Orban exchanged warm words of praise, showcasing a united front on several key global issues.

Orban, one of Europe’s most vocal critics of Western support for Kyiv, said it would take a “miracle" for Ukraine to defeat Moscow, once again underlining his differing stance from most European Union leaders on the war in Ukraine.

Trump, in turn, backed Orban’s position on migration, an issue that has defined both leaders’ political agendas. He said European leaders should show Orban “more respect" for his approach to border security and national sovereignty.
