External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday met with Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, in New Delhi to discuss bilateral cooperation, regional security, and future strategic partnerships. The meeting reaffirmed the deepening ties between India and Israel amid evolving geopolitical challenges in the Middle East and South Asia.

‘India is the future, a global superpower’

Expressing strong admiration for India’s rise on the world stage, Minister Sa’ar hailed India as “the world’s largest democracy and a global superpower".

He said, “India is the future. India is the fastest growing economy, and Israel is a regional powerhouse. Together, we can build a long-term strategic partnership."

He emphasised that Israel highly values its friendship with India and appreciates the solidarity shown by New Delhi in difficult times.

“We remember that Prime Minister Modi was the first world leader to call Prime Minister Netanyahu after Hamas’ October 7th massacre. We won’t forget it," Sa’ar noted.

‘Hamas must be disarmed’

Touching upon the ongoing Middle East conflict, Sa’ar reiterated Israel’s firm stance on eliminating threats from terror groups. “Hamas must be disarmed. Gaza must be demilitarised. We will not compromise on it," he said.

Sa’ar described the existence of “terror states" in the region, including Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the Houthis in Yemen, as the root cause of instability. “These radical terror entities must be uprooted for lasting peace and regional stability," he added.

He also condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, calling radical extremism a shared challenge for both India and Israel. “Radical terror is a mutual threat to Israel and India," he said, underscoring the need for enhanced counter-terrorism cooperation between the two nations.

India-Israel relation

Highlighting Israel’s support for regional development and connectivity projects, the visiting minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to initiatives such as the I2U2 grouping and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

“We support regional connectivity between South Asia, West Asia, and Europe. The future of regional partnerships is bright," he said.
