The streets of New York belonged to Kenya on Sunday as more than 50,000 runners made their way through all five boroughs for the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon. But let’s be honest, while the runners deserve all the applause, this year’s real stars were the spectators and their signs. A video showcasing a woman with the funniest sign that has the Internet in splits is proof.

While runners were pushing through miles of determination, the spectators on the sidelines were flexing their wit. The video making the rounds online shows them lined up behind barriers with some of the funniest marathon signs ever. One woman proudly held up a board that read, “This is excessive, just get Ozempic." Right beside her, another woman added to the sass with a sign asking, “All this for attention?"

Internet Joins The Fun

The clip has since blown up on social media and viewers are adding to the fun with their hillarious comments. Some of them also shared other signs they spotted along the marathon route. One person wrote, “Some woman on 1st had a sign saying, ‘Nobody likes a quick finisher.’" Another added, “Saw one that said, ‘Y’all running better than the government.’"

Those who have ever been to the NYC Marathon would know that the signs are half the entertainment. They are not meant to be mean but are sarcastic in their own way. One user pointed this out, saying, “Has no one literally seen a NY marathon before? All the signs are sarcastic and funny. It’s a NY tradition. The people with the signs are there supporting runners. Y’all wouldn’t last 5 mins here lol."

A sweet comment, in between the chaos, read, “I needed this laugh and some of you do too. It’s a joke, funny signs at NYC marathons have always been a thing. Geez, you must be fun at parties!"

TCS New York City Marathon 2025

The 26.2-mile New York City Marathon route took runners on a journey across all five boroughs. Starting from Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, they crossed the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge into Brooklyn, passed through Queens and the Bronx and finally finished in Central Park, Manhattan.

Every year, the New York City Marathon becomes more than a race. The runners give us inspiration. The spectators give us comedy gold. And, the Internet is left with a whole lot of content.
