Instagram is all about photos, videos and reels but the AI era is going to make content identification a big challenge, something that its chief, Adam Mosseri is worried about. AI-generated content made using advanced tools are getting close to the real videos, and Mosseri claims that platforms like Instagram need to evolve quickly to match with the pace of AI tools getting better.

This is a vital shift for a platform that caters to content from creators and brands to reach billions with authentic content. With AI taking charge that is facing a big threat.

AI Content Is Coming, For Your Insta Feed

Mosseri has talked about the need to stay in shape with the evolving content that is available through the platform. Videos that we see today might be easy to believe but AI is making it harder to differentiate and that becomes a platform for Instagram-like apps.

“For most of my life, I could safely assume photographs or videos were largely accurate captures of moments that happened. This is clearly no longer the case, and it’s going to take us years to adapt. We are going to move from assuming what we see is real by default to starting with scepticism," he was quoted saying in a post.

He is sure about the platform able to mark the AI-generated content but if certain parts of a clip are modified, he is not sure whether they have the tools to give the details successfully. This also is a worry because, according to Mosseri, people nowadays share their ‘moments’ via DMs rather than posting them on feeds.

Beyond AI, Instagram is eyeing TikTok and for that the platform is looking to reinvent the way it reaches to the users. Short videos have been the main fodder for the likes of TikTok, Reels and Shorts over the last few years but Instagram wants to see the bigger picture, and for that it is willing to make some big changes. Adam Mosseri, head at Instagram has suggested some of those plans that the platform will be adopting in the next few years.
