In a landmark move poised to reshape India’s digital landscape, Reliance Jio and Google have announced a strategic partnership that will make Google’s most advanced AI models freely accessible to millions of Jio Unlimited 5G plan users. The collaboration mirrors Jio’s earlier success in bringing affordable mobile data to the masses, positioning it now as a key player in the democratisation of artificial intelligence across the nation.
The partnership, announced by Josh Woodward, VP, Google Labs & Gemini, and Shimrit Ben-Yair, Vice President, Google Photos & Google One, grants eligible Jio users a complimentary 18-month subscription to Google’s AI Pro plan, featuring the latest version of Google Gemini.
Bringing Advanced AI to the Mainstream
This unprecedented offer, valued at approximately Rs 35,100 per user, is set to significantly lower the barrier to accessing cutting-edge AI tools. It will initially roll out to users aged 18 to 25 and will soon be expanded to include every eligible Jio user nationwide.
Subscribers will gain enhanced access to Google’s premium AI suite, including:
Gemini 2.5 Pro: Higher access limits to Google’s most capable AI model within the Gemini app.
Creative AI Tools: Higher limits for generating high-quality images and videos using the state-of-the-art Nano Banana and Veo 3.1 models.
NotebookLM: Expanded access to the powerful research and study tool.
Cloud Storage: A substantial 2 TB of cloud storage across Google Photos, Gmail, Drive, and for backing up WhatsApp chats (on Android).
The partnership is rooted in a shared vision: just as Jio made high-speed 4G data ubiquitous and affordable, this initiative aims to make world-class AI tools an accessible utility for every Indian.
“We are excited to expand access to our most powerful AI models to more people across India and can’t wait to see how our world-class tools deliver powerful benefits in people’s everyday lives," stated the Google executives.
Eligible Jio customers can activate this comprehensive AI and cloud storage bundle via the MyJio app. Analysts predict this move could dramatically accelerate AI adoption for personal use, education, and small-scale entrepreneurship, further cementing India’s position as a global leader in digital consumption.
