LG smart TVs are quite popular in the market but a recent update has made its users feel cheated in some ways. The company has issued a new software update for its smart TV lineup that has added Microsoft’s AI Copilot app and the worst thing is that you cannot delete this app and only hide it from the home screen.

It seems the Copilot app has been pushed towards them without any notice or even the option of taking consent to install the app. Copilot competes with ChatGPT and Gemini in the smart arena but most LG TV users are not sure whether they really wanted this app from the company.

Apps Pushed Through Updates: The Right Way?

Smart TVs are the same as phones but with a big screen. They also run on Android or a similar platform and LG is working with Microsoft to push this update that brings Copilot.

Usually, people might not be so enraged by such a move but they cannot delete this app, which makes it a bloatware and that’s the reason for over 34,000 upvotes for the change on a Reddit forum. The issue was first spotted by Tom’s Hardware in a report, and these many posts tell you nobody really wanted this update.

Also, don’t forget, TVs come with much lower onboard storage than phones, so this app, which cannot be deleted, takes up extra unwanted space on the device.

We get that AI assistants are becoming a useful option on most devices but does anybody need it on a TV? This also could be Microsoft stat-padding its availability of Copilot and increasing its userbase, even if the active users are much lower.

In a similar vein, Nothing announced that its mid-range phones will have pre-loaded apps with a new Nothing OS update. The company faced a lot of flak for this decision and was forced to tweak its policy and allow people to delete the apps. Seeing so many complaints could ideally force LG to roll back the undeletable app and make it more dynamic for people who don’t want the app in the first place.
