Redmi Pad 2 Pro is the bigger version with 5G support and an improved display quality but does that make it worth buying?

Xiaomi continues with the ecosystem push by launching the Redmi Pad 2 Pro tablet in the Indian market earlier this month. This is also its first 5G-based tablet which caters to the mid-range buyers who now also get a big screen advantage that goes beyond enabling multimedia consumption.

It has a Snapdragon chipset, a big capacity battery and some useful accessories that bring dynamism to the device and its use case. But does all this give you a package that people can consider buying in the tablet arena, we look for these answers in detail.

The Metal Finish

Redmi Pad 2 Pro is built for the long haul and by that we mean its all-metal unibody design can easily handle the daily grunt and even withstand a few drops without really facing any damage. The use of aluminium for the back panel and the frame gives the Redmi Pad 2 Pro the needed solidity for its stature and even then it manages to stay pretty light at 620 grams and comes 7.5mm thickness.

It has the very nominal IP53 rating which can only handle normal water splashes and we would have lived something on the higher range for durability. You have the cameras placed with a dual module and they sit at the back aligned with the power button. It never feels like a budget device and that is a good thing for most people.

The Big Screen Bonanza

Redmi’s Pro version has a much bigger 12.1-inch display and you get it with 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision but not AMOLED panel. The screen is huge, you get rich colours and decent viewing layers. However, the side angle views are slightly off which is expected with an LCD display.

Watching movies with Dolby Vision tech means you don’t feel tired and that makes it an obvious use case for the tablet. It has a matte glass option and the screen gets Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The screen won’t blow you away but you will not find much to complain about and that works for most users.

Reliable For Most Tasks

The Redmi Pro tablet is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage which was what we got to test from the brand. This is a definite upgrade from the 7s Gen 3 version and what you get with the hardware is that the Redmi Pad 2 Pro offers reliable performance, for both regular tasks and even casual gaming.

We didn’t notice a lot of strain on the device but with the current weather in Delhi, heating was probably not going to be evident.

The Android version 15 running over HyperOS 2 out of the box feels outdated, especially when the Android 16 version is available. The company is promising multiple OS upgrades which will include the HyperOS 3 version and we hope these roll out faster than usual from the brand.

The interface is surprisingly free of bloatware, and you get the usual HyperOS experience with some Xiaomi-linked connectivity options. Most people will find it easy to use and even learn if they are trying HyperOS for the first time.

Keeps Going On

Xiaomi has packed this tablet with a 12,000mAh battery which was always going to last the endurance test and it did so with flying colours. This size is important because you also have the 5G support available (with the highest variant), and that means the battery drain can be higher than usual when the network switches are more frequent in the background.

However, getting it with 33W charging support means the battery fuel up from 0 to even 80 percent takes more than a couple of hours which is probably a longer time than people are used to these days.

Redmi Pad 2 Pro has a lot of strong points, including its big-screen experience which doubles up for multimedia thanks to the quad speaker setup. You have a reliable device that can run for more than a day and also brings 5G support for on-the-go connectivity.
