At BMW Plant in Munich, Rahul Gandhi Points to Indian Engineering Potential, Warns of Decline at Home
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has been absent from Parliament in recent days, is currently on a tour of Germany. During his visit, he toured BMW’s facilities in Munich, including BMW Welt and the company’s main manufacturing plant. The visit comes at a time when the Winter Session of Parliament is underway in India.
Gandhi shared details of the visit on social media, offering a glimpse into what he described as world-class manufacturing practices in Europe.
What Rahul Gandhi said?
According to his post, Rahul Gandhi was given a guided tour of BMW Welt and the BMW Plant, where vehicles are produced using advanced technology and highly skilled labour. He said the visit provided a close look at how large-scale manufacturing operates efficiently and sustainably.
One of the highlights of the tour, Gandhi noted, was seeing a 450cc motorcycle developed by Indian firm TVS Motor Company in partnership with BMW. He described it as a proud moment to see Indian engineering showcased at a global manufacturing hub.
The TVS-BMW collaboration is seen as an example of how Indian companies can integrate with global value chains when supported by strong industrial ecosystems.
Indian engineering
Gandhi praised the presence of Indian engineering talent in international projects, saying it reflected the potential of Indian manufacturers when given the right opportunities. He underlined that such partnerships help raise standards, improve skills and open doors to global markets.
He suggested that similar collaborations and investments are needed on a much larger scale within India to strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity.

In his remarks, Gandhi stressed that manufacturing remains the backbone of strong economies. He argued that countries with robust manufacturing sectors are better placed to create stable jobs and sustain long-term economic growth.
However, he expressed concern about the situation in India, claiming that manufacturing is declining. According to him, this trend threatens job creation, especially for young people entering the workforce.
Gandhi said India needs to “produce more" to accelerate growth. He called for the building of meaningful manufacturing ecosystems that bring together industry, skilled workers, technology and policy support.
He added that creating high-quality jobs at scale should be a priority, warning that without a strong manufacturing push, India could struggle to meet its economic and employment goals in the coming years.
