US President Donald Trump issued a combative Christmas message on his social media platform, Truth Social, launching a sweeping attack on political rivals, media organisations and individuals he claims were associated with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In the lengthy post, Trump accused unnamed “sleazebags" of socialising with Epstein, visiting his private island and funding him, before distancing themselves once Epstein became the subject of criminal investigations. Trump asserted that he was “the only one" who cut ties with Epstein early on, long before it became politically expedient to do so.
The president alleged that the ongoing scrutiny into Epstein’s connections is part of what he described as a “Radical Left Witch Hunt," claiming that those whose names are emerging are largely Democrats. He also singled out what he called a “lowlife Republican," without providing details.
Trump further compared the Epstein-related scrutiny to the Russia investigation into his 2016 campaign, again branding it a hoax and a “total scam." He accused sections of the US media, particularly The New York Times, of spreading false narratives, claiming the outlet was previously forced to apologise for inaccurate election reporting and lost subscribers as a result.
In a sharp closing remark, Trump warned that “mostly innocent" people could be reputationally harmed by what he called corrupt Democratic politics, ending the message with a provocative sign-off suggesting it could be the public’s “last Merry Christmas."
The post adds to Trump’s long-standing pattern of using holidays and major occasions to deliver politically charged messages, as he continues to position himself as a central figure in US political discourse ahead of future elections.
