Elon Musk's message came hours after he posted a three-word message refuting media reports linking him to Jeffrey Epstein's island, following the release of thousands of documents from Epstein's estate, tweeting: "This is false," his first response.
Elon Musk has dismissed documents from the Jeffrey Epstein probe that mentioned his alleged 2014 visit to the convicted sex offender’s private island, claiming the Democratic Party and its media allies were targeting him as they see him as a "threat."
"Democratic Party & their media allies see Elon as a threat because he exposes corruption, challenges their narrative, & gives people free speech through X," Musk said.
This came hours after he posted a three-word message refuting media reports linking him to Jeffrey Epstein’s island, following the release of thousands of documents from Epstein’s estate, tweeting: "This is false," his first response.
Newly released documents, provided to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and partially disclosed by Democratic members, include daily schedules, flight logs, financial records, and phone messages from Epstein’s dealings over nearly three decades.
Among the released materials is an itinerary suggesting a possible trip by Musk to Epstein’s private island in December 2014.
The newly disclosed records also mention other prominent figures, including US entrepreneur Peter Thiel and former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon, indicating planned meetings and events with Epstein over several years.
The broad scope of the documents has increased scrutiny of Epstein’s ties to influential business and political figures long after his 2007 plea deal.
Democratic members of the committee have highlighted the continuing influence Epstein wielded among powerful circles. The files include financial ledgers with payments for "massages" associated with Prince Andrew, as well as detailed flight logs showing travel by Epstein, his aide Ghislaine Maxwell, and others as early as 2000. Maxwell remains in prison for sex trafficking minors.
"It should be clear to every American that Jeffrey Epstein was friends with some of the most powerful and wealthiest men in the world," Oversight spokesperson Sara Guerrero said, adding, "Every new document produced provides new information as we work to bring justice for the survivors and victims."
Republicans on the committee criticised Democrats for releasing the information unilaterally, describing the move as politically motivated. A Republican Party spokesperson accused Democrats of "cherry-picking documents" and claimed some files referencing Democratic officials were withheld.
Questions remain about the ongoing review process, as committee members have emphasised that many of the documents remain heavily redacted to protect the privacy of victims, with further disclosures expected in the near future.
Beyond Musk, the documents have reignited public interest in the network of relationships Epstein maintained with global elites. The files cite additional gatherings, such as a planned lunch with Thiel in 2017 and a breakfast with Bannon months before Epstein’s arrest on federal sex trafficking charges.
The case has continued to draw attention to the broader implications of Epstein’s connections. His links to high-profile individuals like Prince Andrew and Bill Gates had already drawn significant scrutiny prior to this latest release of documents.
Donald Trump, who was known to have a past relationship with Epstein, was quoted in 2002 saying, “I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy.” This quote has resurfaced in the context of the latest disclosures.
