A passenger sparked panic on a transatlantic flight after allegedly attempting to open an emergency door at 35,000 ft mid-air.

The incident took place aboard Plus Ultra Flight 701 from Madrid’s Barajas Airport to the Venezuelan capital, Caracas on February 28, when the aircraft was over the Atlantic Ocean, reported Daily Mail.

According to the co-passengers, the man suddenly jumped out of his seat and started yanking at the door lever. Passengers watching the drama unfold started screaming as others raced to the aid of flight attendants attempting to restrain him.

Footage from the scene showed the man standing at the exit while cabin crew members wrestled him away. The flyer was seen lying on the floor with his hands tied behind his back. He remained under close watch for the remainder of the journey.

At least one flight attendant suffered injuries as they tried to restrain the man.

A Plus Ultra spokesman asked about the incident, said, “A passenger began to feel restless, annoying the person in the next seat with shouts. The crew acted quickly, and relocated the passenger to another seat. Moments later, he suddenly went to one of the doors of the plane trying to manipulate it. Immediately, our cabin crew subdued the passenger and secured him in the back of the plane until he reached the destination," the outlet reported.

The airline added, “One of our cabin crew suffered a partial fracture of the fibula for which he has already been treated and which will keep him out for a few weeks."
