A plane crashed in the vicinity of a shopping mall in Philadelphia in the wee hours of Saturday (Indian time). According to media reports, multiple homes were on fire and casualties were feared.
News agency Reuters quoted the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper and stated the crash took place shortly after 6 pm Eastern near the Roosevelt Mall in northeast Philadelphia.
CBS News said two people were onboard the plane at the time of the crash.
A fireball was followed by the ignition of several fires on the ground in a northeastern neighborhood of the east coast US city, the local FOX29 channel showed.
Videos on social media showed a bright flash caught on camera as the plane crashed.
Another video showed thick smoke at the site of the plane crash and multiple cars were up in flames.
Another video showed chaos and panic on the streets as multiple homes were seen up on flames in the vicinity of the plane crash.
The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management confirmed on social media that there was a “major incident" in the area of the reported crash, but provided no other details.
An official confirmation on the number of people onboard the plane and the fatalities was yet awaited.
