North Korea appears close to completing its first airborne early warning system (AEW), a report by 38 North said, citing satellite imagery. The satellite images reportedly showed an Ilyushin IL-76 aircraft with a large radome - a structure that encircles a radar system - mounted on top of the fuselage. The IL-76 aircraft could be seen parked alongside a maintenance hangar at an airport in Pyongyang, the website specialising in North Korea studies said. The aircraft was reportedly moved into the airport’s maintenance facility in October 2023. The radome mounted on the aircraft has a distinctive triangle design on top, similar to what is seen on some Chinese AEW aircraft, the report said. This could indicate support or influence from China, although the triangle alone is not conclusive proof, North 38 reported. n18oc_world n18oc_crux0:00 INTRODUCTION1:46 “NORTH KOREAN AIR FORCES OPENING THEIR EYES”3:10 KIM’S SISTER SLAMS US ‘CONFRONTATION’
