India and France on Tuesday elevated their ties to a “Special Global Strategic Partnership", with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron agreeing to deepen cooperation in defence, trade and technology.

Prime Minister Modi hosted Macron for talks in Mumbai during the French leader’s three-day visit to India from February 17 to 19. Macron is also attending the AI Impact Summit.

“India and France share a very special relationship," PM Modi said in a statement. “On the basis of this same trust and shared vision, today we are establishing our relationship as a ‘Special Global Strategic Partnership’."

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released a list of 21 outcomes from the visit, covering political, defence, economic and technology sectors.
