OpenAI whistleblower Suchir Balaji’s parents have filed a lawsuit demanding a probe into his death, saying that the police are not giving them a clear picture since they declared Balaji’s death a suicide.
Suchir Balaji was found dead in his one-room apartment in November after he had publicly raised ethical concerns about OpenAI’s practices. The police deemed his death as an act of suicide but his family has called for an FBI investigation as they said that there were several lapses in the police probe.
Speaking to CNN-News18, Balaji’s mother Poornima Rao said the police did not give them a clear picture regarding her son’s death as they gave conflicting accounts on the probe. She said the cops told them that they have re-investigated the case but found nothing.
Balaji’s parents said police told them that they had gone through the CCTV footage of the incident and found nothing suspicious but nobody from the police department approached the apartment staff for the footage.
