US President Donald Trump on Friday said he expects to hear from Iran “tonight” on Washington’s latest proposal aimed at ending the conflict in West Asia and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, even as tensions continued to simmer in the strategic waterway.

“I’m getting a letter supposedly tonight. So we’ll see how that goes,” Trump told reporters outside the White House before departing for his golf course in Sterling, Virginia. Asked whether Tehran was intentionally delaying the process, Trump replied: “We’ll find out soon enough.”

The remarks came amid renewed military friction around the Strait of Hormuz, the critical global oil shipping route. An Iranian military source warned that clashes could resume if the United States interferes with Iranian vessels again. While describing the current situation as “calm”, the source said there remained “a possibility of re-entering such conflicts in the region” if US forces attempted to disrupt Iranian ships, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
