Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday strongly condemned the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das by Dhaka police on sedition charges, calling the arrest “unjustly" and demanded his immediate release.

Das, a monk who led multiple protests against atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, was arrested by the Dhaka Police’s Detective Branch on November 25 at Dhaka airport.

“A top leader of Sanatan religious community has been unjustly arrested, he must be released immediately. A temple has been burnt in Chittagong. Previously, mosques, shrines, churches, monasteries and homes of the Ahmadiyya community were attacked, vandalized and looted and set on fire," Hasina wrote in her letter.

She further noted: “Religious freedom and security of life and property of people of all communities should be ensured."
