Nvidia’s Jensen Huang has said homework and the promise to become a CEO by the age of 30 helped him win over his wife Lori Huang when they were students at Oregon State University.
In a recent interview, Huang said the odds were stacked against him when he met Lori as a 17-year-old freshman. She was 19, but he used his homework as an excuse to spend time with her.
“I was the youngest kid in school, in class. There were 250 students and three girls," he said in an interview at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology last week, after receiving an honorary degree, as per a report published by Business Insider.
He said he was the only student who “looked like a child" but he used that to approach the woman, who would become his wife, thinking she would assume that he was smart.
“I walked up to her and I said, ‘Do you want to see my homework? If you do homework with me every Sunday, I promise you, you will get straight As," he was quoted, talking about how he made a deal with her.
Huang further said from then on, he had a date every Sunday. He and Lori Mills married five years later, and now have two children – Madison, a marketing director at Nvidia, and Spencer, a senior product manager.
According to Nvidia’s website, he graduated from Oregon State University (OSU) in 1984. He has worked at chip companies like LSI Logic and Advanced Micro Devices.
The Nvidia head has a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University, which he received in 1992 – a year before he founded Nvidia at the age of 30. With him as the 11th richest person in the world, his company has a net worth of $3.6 trillion as of November 22 and has surpassed Apple as the world’s most valuable company.
Nvidia — the world’s biggest supplier of chips and software used to create artificial intelligence (AI) systems — on Monday showed a new model for generating music and audio that can modify voices and generate novel sounds.
The company said the technology is aimed at the producers of music, films and video games. But, it added that it does not have immediate plans to publicly release the technology, which it calls Fugatto, short for Foundational Generative Audio Transformer Opus 1.
