US President Donald Trump on Tuesday praised the country’s border patrol agent Roberto Ortiz, highlighting how he valiantly fought back cartels who fired at him. Addressing the joint session of Congress on Tuesday, Trump praised Ortiz for firing back at cartels when his team was fired at.
On January 27, Ortiz and his colleagues were patrolling in Weslaco when cartels fired at them. Ortiz said fired back and was able to do this because of Trump’s tough policies against cartels and immigration.
Trump, while lauding Ortiz, said, “We salute you for your great courage and for your line of fire that you took and for the bravery that you showed."

Trump spoke about how his government has launched the “most sweeping border and immigration crackdown." Trump said, “Since taking office, my administration has launched the most sweeping border and immigration crackdown in American history—and we quickly achieved the lowest numbers of illegal border crossers ever recorded. The media and our friends in the Democrat Party kept saying we needed new legislation to secure the border… but it turned out that all we really needed was a new president."
Trump called on US Congress “I have sent Congress a detailed funding request laying out exactly how we will eliminate these threats, protect our homeland, and complete the largest deportation operation in American history."
‘Cartels Are Terrorists’
Addressing the joint Congress, Trump also declared the cartels in Mexico as terrorist organisations. “For us, ISIS and the cartels fall into the same category. The cartels have declared war on us, and it is time for us to declare war on them," Trump said.
Donald Trump also praised Mexico for extraditing cartel leaders to the US, adding, “But we need Mexico and Canada to do much more, to stop fentanyl coming over the border."
