WhatsApp users will soon have a smarter way of managing the storage of their chats and media files. The platform is testing a new option where you can individually check for storage that each chat on your account is taking. All this while, the messaging app has given a consolidated way to access and manage storage which is helpful but doesn’t give you broader details about which files are taking bulk of the storage.

This could change with a new update as WhatsApp starts testing its per-chat storage management feature for the iOS users in the last few days.

WhatsApp Manage Storage For Chats: How It Works

WhatsApp has already offered the new storage feature for Android beta users with version 2.25.31.13 or later and we have independently checked for the support. The news about the feature coming to iOS has been shared by reliable tipster WaBetaInfo this week.

As the tool suggests, WhatsApp users can simply tap on the profile of the person and check the amount of MB or GBs that chat is taking based on the files and videos you have shared or received from them. It does feel like an intuitive way to help people manage their WhatsApp storage which after a point counts in their Google cloud storage quota.

The clip here shows you where the ‘manage storage’ option will be available within WhatsApp for each chat. You can see the size of the files linked to the chat with that contact and decide if you want to keep it or delete it to get more storage for other data.

With the manage storage per chat option now available in beta for both Android and iPhone users, it seems WhatsApp is soon going to release it for everyone and that should happen in the next few weeks.

The messaging app is also getting more Meta elements and one of them is the inclusion of a cover photo over your profile/display picture. As you would expect, the cover photo option will be available within the profile settings for users. The feature is being tested within the beta-sphere for now but its public rollout cannot be ruled out in the next few months.
