United States President Donald Trump sarcastically rapped at a journalist when the latter asked him if he is planning to visit the deadly crash site which is the Potomac River in Washington DC.
“You want me to go swimming?" said Trump while speaking to the reporters at the White House.
Speaking about his plans to visit the crash site, Trump said, “I have a plan to visit, not the site. Because you tell me, what’s the site? The water? You want me to go swimming?"
On Thursday, the president said that he would be meeting the families of the victims who died in the plane crash which took place near the Ronald Reagan Airport on Wednesday night.
“I will be meeting with some people that were very badly hurt with their family members, obviously, but I’ll be meeting with some of the families, yeah," Trump said.
The authorities have said that all 67 people in the crash are presumed dead.
Trump’s remark was condemned by social media users who called it “callous".
“67 people die under his watch, and he makes a joke? Callous, heartless, completely lacking in empathy on full display because so many other Americans are like this and see no problem with it," said one user.
“We are such a profoundly unserious country sometimes," commented another.
President Trump Blames Biden’s DEI Programs For Crash
In a press conference, President Trump blamed former president Joe Biden’s diversity (DEI) programs for the crash.
“We want the most competent people. We don’t care what race they are. We want the most competent people, especially in those positions," Trump said.
“You’re talking about extremely complex things, and if they don’t have a great brain, a great power of the brain, they’re not going to be very good at what they do and bad things will happen," he added.
When he was later asked about why he thinks DEI was responsible for the crash, Trump said that it “could have been" and added, “I have common sense."
Till Thursday afternoon, the rescuers recovered more than 40 bodies from the Potomac River, reported CNN.
