Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen reaffirmed the island’s commitment to Denmark.

US President Donald Trump has reacted strongly after Greenland’s Prime Minister said the island wants to remain with Denmark. Responding to the comments, Trump said it was “their problem" and made clear that he disagreed with their stand on the Arctic Island.
“I disagree with them. I don’t know who he is. Don’t know anything about him. But that is going to be a big problem for him," Trump added.
Greenland reiterates loyalty to Denmark
Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen reaffirmed the island’s commitment to Denmark. Speaking in Copenhagen alongside Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, he ruled out becoming a US territory. Nielsen said Greenland would choose Denmark if forced to decide, stressing unity within the Kingdom of Denmark. At the same time, Greenland’s politics are increasingly focused on long-term independence rather than immediate autonomy.
US push for Greenland gathers pace
Trump’s push to take control of Greenland is moving into a decisive phase, according to a senior US official. Thomas Dans, Trump’s Arctic commissioner, said “meaningful US action" could come within weeks or months. He said the plan to annex or otherwise acquire Greenland would not be dropped and could move faster than expected.
