Armed men stormed Patong Prathan Khiriwat School in Hat Yai district, southern Thailand, taking teachers and students hostage, local authorities said. One teacher was reportedly shot and rushed to hospital. The attack occurred as classes were ending for the day. According to the Mae Taptim Yala Foundation, the gunmen opened fire upon entering the school in tambon Patong. Many students remained trapped inside while police and special forces cordoned off the area.

Authorities said they were coordinating with district and village officials to negotiate with the assailants. Rescue teams were deployed to evacuate students and staff safely.
