Fresh details emerged in the case of Nick Reiner, the son of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner, offering new insight into his movements and behaviour in the hours after he allegedly murdered his parents at their Los Angeles home.

Nick Reiner has since been arrested and charged with the murders of his parents- Rob Reiner, 78, the legendary director behind films such as When Harry Met Sally, Stand By Me and The Princess Bride, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 68. The couple were found stabbed to death at their Brentwood residence on Sunday afternoon and were reportedly discovered by their daughter Romy Reiner.

Investigators say Nick Reiner checked into The Pierside Santa Monica hotel at around 4 am on Sunday using a credit card, just hours after an explosive argument with his father at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party.

US media outlets reported that Nick Reiner was involved in a bitter and public shouting match with Rob Reiner at the party, leaving several guests visibly unsettled. Witnesses described him as behaving erratically, with one report stating that he appeared “tweaked out" when he later arrived at the hotel. However, staff said there were no visible signs at the time to suggest he had been involved in a violent confrontation.

Hotel Room Found Blood-Soaked

The disturbing discovery was made later on Sunday when hotel staff entered the room after Nick Reiner checked out early. According to reports, the shower was “full of blood," bloodstains were found on the bed and the windows had been covered with bedsheets.

What Romy Reiner Told Investigators

Romy Reiner, who found her parents’ bodies, told investigators that her brother “should be a suspect" and described him as dangerous, as per reports. Nick Reiner is currently being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles and has reportedly been placed on suicide watch.

Investigators are also examining the family dynamics leading up to the killings. Friends and neighbours have suggested the argument at the Christmas party may have centred on Nick Reiner’s refusal to enter another rehabilitation programme. Reports indicate he has struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues for years, including multiple stints in rehab.
