Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the son of Iran’s slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is all set to succeed his father, who was killed in joint strikes by Israel and United States. Born in 1969 in the Iranian city of Mashhad, Mojtaba spent his early years amid his father’s rise as a leading cleric resisting the rule of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran. After the 1979 Islamic Revolution upended the old order, his family’s status soared and they became deeply embedded in the new Islamic Republic’s power structure.
