Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said he received a call from his Mauritius counterpart Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam during which both vowed to continue to work to achieve shared objectives of peace and stability in the Indian Ocean Region.

In a post on X, PM Modi said: “Happy to receive a phone call from my friend, Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam. We reviewed progress in the wide-ranging cooperation between India and Mauritius since our memorable meeting in Varanasi last year."

“Reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthen the special, historic and people-centric ties that unite our two nations. India and Mauritius will continue to work together to achieve shared objectives of peace and stability in the Indian Ocean Region. I look forward to welcoming him to India for the AI Impact Summit next week," he added.

During Mauritius PM’s visit to India last year in September, both leaders agreed to deepen cooperation in infrastructure, healthcare, digital technology, energy, maritime security and more. During the meeting, MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) were signed between India and Mauritius.

In March last year, PM Modi presented Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards to his Mauritian counterpart Navin Ramgoolam and his spouse Veena Ramgoolam.

During President Droupadi Murmu’s state visit to Mauritius in March 2024, India extended eligibility for OCI cards to Mauritian nationals of Indian lineage traceable up to the seventh generation – an initiative aimed at fostering closer ties with the Indian diaspora.
