Google TV is the go-to smart TV platform for the company that is available across different prices and now it will have AI features too.
Gemini AI will be soon available on the big screen.
Google TV will soon integrate Gemini, enhancing the TV experience by making it more intuitive and user-friendly. With this update, users will be able to interact with their TVs using natural language, asking questions about topics like travel or history. In response, the TV will provide both video content and textual information to answer the queries. These new updates have come at the CES 2025 in Las Vegas this week.
The Gemini AI-embedded Google TV will also include additional features like generating customised artwork, controlling smart home devices through the TV interface and providing a summary of daily news.
Notably, the integration will also allow the users to talk to their other smart home devices, allowing them to view their video doorbell feed, dim lights and many more. The tech giant is scheduled to roll out the AI features for select Google TV later this year. However, an official date is yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, the tech giant rolled out similar AI features for the Google TV Streamer last year.
In addition to this, the company, as per The Verge, is also planning to equip these smart TVs with far-field microphones, which will allow the users to directly give commands to the TV without the need for a remote. Moreover, Google TVs will also include proximity sensors, which will detect when you are close to the TV and display “personalised and informative widgets" such as weather or news items.
Not just Google, other big companies in the Television market like LG and Samsung have also announced that they are joining the AI trend by adding Microsoft's Copilot assistance to their televisions.
However, before TV, tech geeks might witness Gemini AI coming to Wear OS devices and it is expected to happen alongside the March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop. According to a report by 9to5Google, there were some hints about the update in the Beta version of the Google app (v16.0.5). A line read, “Easily talk back and forth to get more done with an assistant on your watch, reimagined with Google AI" which implies that the Wear OS assistant will be more natural and conversational than previously, allowing for more dynamic back-and-forth talks.
