The iPhone 17 Air or Slim could be pricier than the outgoing Plus model
Apple has stayed true to its design language over the last few years. However, rumors are circulating that the upcoming iPhone 17 series, set to launch in the second half of 2025, may include a new thin-built model, possibly called the iPhone 17 Air or iPhone Slim.
As mentioned by TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the rumoured iPhone 17 Air (or iPhone Slim) is expected to be incredibly thin. This model is anticipated to replace the current Plus variant in the iPhone 17 lineup, potentially making it the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever produced.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently revealed more details about the rumoured iPhone 17 Air in his latest Medium post, describing it as an “ultra-thin iPhone" with a thickness of around 5.5mm. The compact design is expected to exclude a physical SIM card slot, relying solely on eSIM. However, Kuo cautioned that the lack of a physical SIM card may pose shipping challenges, particularly in China, where eSIM-only phones may not be as widely supported.
The thinnest iPhone ever made; the iPhone 17 Air will surpass the 6.9mm iPhone 6 from 2014 if Kuo’s predictions regarding its 5.5mm thickness are accurate. According to earlier reports, the iPhone 17 Air will have a thickness of 6.25mm. In comparison, the most recent iPhone 16 has a thickness of 7.8mm. It is estimated that the Galaxy S25 Slim from Samsung will come with 6mm thickness.
It is also suggested that the new iPhone 17 Air would cost between $1,299 and $1,500 which will surely make it a tough sell when you have the Pro models available for much less. It is rumoured to include an A18 or A19 CPU that supports Apple Intelligence capabilities and 8GB of RAM. The first-ever Apple 5G and Wi-Fi chips are probably going to come equipped in this new Slim device.
The iPhone 17 Air is likely to sport a 6.6-inch OLED ProMotion display with a 120Hz refresh rate screen. The one big change because of the slim design could be Apple’s limited power to offer a single 48MP rear camera and a 24MP selfie camera on the front.
