Apple has finally give you the option to manually update the AirPods software. Previously, firmware updates for AirPods were automatic and couldn't be triggered manually. Now, with this new feature, users can initiate updates whenever a new firmware version becomes available, although automatic updates will still occur in the background.

Detailed instructions for updating the firmware on all AirPods models, including the standard, Pro and Max variants, are now available on Apple's Support page. Follow these simple steps to update your Apple audio device's firmware.

How To Update AirPods Firmware

– Make sure that your iPhone, iPad, or Mac with Wi-Fi is within Bluetooth range of your AirPods.

– Place your AirPods inside their charging case and close the lid.

– Plug one end of the charging cable into a USB port or charger and the other end into your charging case.

– Keep the charging case lid closed and wait for at least 30 minutes for the firmware to update.

– Open the charging case lid to reconnect your AirPods to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

– Check the firmware version again to confirm the update.

– If you are still having trouble, reset your AirPods and try the update process once more.

How to Update Apple AirPods Max Firmware

Once again, ensure that your AirPods Max is within Bluetooth range of your Wi-Fi-connected iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

– Plug the charging cable into the bottom-right earphone of the AirPods Max

– Connect the other end to a USB port or charger

– Allow at least 30 minutes for the firmware update to complete

– Reconnect your AirPods Max to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac

– Double-check the firmware version to confirm the update was successful

– If facing trouble, just reset your AirPods Max and attempt the firmware update again.

For most users, firmware updates will still be installed automatically in the background, with no changes behind the scenes. However, this manual update option is the first official way to trigger firmware updates for those who prefer to control the process.
