WhatsApp has long worked to support a wide variety of iOS versions, enabling users across multiple iPhone models and iOS releases to enjoy its services. This inclusive approach helped expand the platform's reach. However, to stay aligned with the latest technological advancements and improve user experiences, the company is now planning to phase out support for some older iOS versions.

In a recent update, WhatsApp announced that it will discontinue support for older versions of iOS starting May 5. The messaging app will not support iOS versions earlier than 15.1, even for users attempting to access it via older beta versions on TestFlight. Ahead of this change, WhatsApp has already blocked beta testers from installing the latest app version on these devices. By raising the minimum iOS requirement, WhatsApp aims to leverage newer iOS features and technologies for an enhanced user experience.

Before installing the WhatsApp beta version 25.1.10.72 for iOS, users who have enrolled their iPhone in the beta program must ensure their device is running iOS 15.1 or a later version.

This marks the end for beta testers using older iPhones such as the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPhone 5s, as these devices cannot be upgraded to iOS 15. The current WhatsApp beta release will continue working for a few more weeks before expiring. However, users can still switch to the stable version of the app, which will receive updates until the first week of May.

Once WhatsApp discontinues support for iOS 12, iOS 13, and iOS 14, it will be able to incorporate new features that are compatible with the latest iOS versions. The App Store listing of WhatsApp now requires iOS 15.1 or later, and WhatsApp Business, which currently supports iOS 12, will soon require iOS 15.1 starting this May.

To install the latest beta version of WhatsApp on your iPhone, follow these steps:

Open the Settings app on your iPhone

Go to General > Software Update

Tap Install Now if the update is available

Once the update is complete and your iPhone is running iOS 15.1

You can install the latest WhatsApp beta version on your device

This change applies to both the standard WhatsApp app and WhatsApp Business, as both apps share the same underlying code and system requirements. If you’re currently using an older iOS version, it’s recommended to update your device to continue using the app or switch to a compatible iPhone that supports newer iOS versions.
