DeepSeek is the first AI model coming out of China that has got people in the US excited because it claims to be better than ChatGPT. Is It true?
DeepSeek is free, works on mobile and promises better features than ChatGPT
OpenAI is now facing a big challenge from China as a new AI assistant built from an open source model is taking on ChatGPT and already ahead of the AI chatbot on the Apple App store.
DeepSeek is the company behind the new AI sensation that has clearly captured the interest of iPhone users in the US this month, where it has now surpassed ChatGPT on the App Store charts as per multiple industry data.
China has predominantly kept its AI cards close to its chest so far but the battle has clearly gotten feistier with the new AI chatbot in town. That’s not all, DeepSeek says its AI model is far more accurate and quicker with responses than ChatGPT which is a tall claim to make.
Better AI With Less Funds?
The creators of DeepSeek V3 Model say its AI chatbot leads the charts among the other AI models, but the company also seems to have developed its AI armoury with far less money than the likes of OpenAI and Google. The creators of DeepSeek have even cited this in a paper, saying they have spent less than $6 million and used the Nvidia H800 chips for training the AI model.
It is staggering to see the company claim that its powerful AI model has come via less-than-powered Nvidia hardware and that too with a fraction of the money that the big tech giants have sought for their respective AI development in the last few years.
To be fair, anyone can make such claims and it would be hardly surprising to see people believe them but either way the US government will surely be worried by the scale of AI development coming out of China, and their open-source nature means millions can access the tools without any restrictions. That’s not all, DeepSeek is offering its services free of cost, even for the advanced features and model versions, which makes it equally appealing for millions who are yet to try out the AI chatbot.
DeepSeek isn’t the first AI model to venture out of the region, but the first one to have really got people in the US talking, including the tech experts, and that shows the scale of the AI evolution which will get the world talking about for a long time.
